Overdose Awareness Day | Oxford Treatment Center
There was a rise in overdoses and overdose deaths in 2020. Many people had different experiences during the pandemic for a variety of reasons. But the mental and emotional impact had on those in sobriety or even those continuing to struggle with a drug or alcohol addiction has been alarming. Overdose deaths increased 34% in the state of Mississippi from 2020 to 2021.
Oxford Treatment Center located in Etta, Mississippi provides medical detox, inpatient and outpatient treatment, and aftercare planning to help individuals struggling with a substance use disorder or an alcohol use disorder.
One Solution to Overdose Problem
To combat the overdose obstacle and be a solution to this ongoing problem, Oxford Treatment Center is set to host overdose training sessions for businesses on August 30th and 31st. Safety is a priority, so the sessions will be done virtually and they’re going to be free! Because synthetic opioids contribute to the majority of overdose deaths, the purpose of the training is to help businesses have their staffs trained to administer medication that can reverse an opioid overdose using Narcan©.
Wins for businesses participating:
- They are taking a proactive approach in saving lives from overdose deaths.
- Eligible to receive a digital badge for social profiles/website, informing the public of their overdose training from a national leader in addiction treatment.
- Q & A opportunity to learn as much as possible. Applied knowledge can be empowering.
Honoring Overdose Awareness Day (August 31st) by empowering others to help others is a great way to decrease the problem.
