Mat’s experience includes over a decade in the provision, coordination, and management of inpatient and outpatient substance abuse and mental health programs. He formerly served as Director of Youth Programs for Memphis Recovery Centers, Director of Alcohol & Drug Services and Family Drug Court Therapist for Region 8 Mental Health, and served in multiple clinical and supervisory roles with Youth Villages where he was involved in assisting with initiation and implementation of the MS Youth Programs Around the Clock (MYPAC).

Mat holds a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Counseling from Mississippi College, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Memphis. He is co-published in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology.
